On September 30, the delegation led by Arpine Sargsyan, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, who was on a working visit to the United Arab Emirates, was received by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs of the Emirates, Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Welcoming Arpine Sargsyan, Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan highly appreciated the partnership relations between the two states. It emphasized that there are prospects for further strengthening and developing cooperation between the two departments.
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Armenia, expressing gratitude for the warm welcome, also highlighted the need to strengthen partnership relations between the internal affairs systems of the two states.
Arpine Sargsyan emphasized the role of the United Arab Emirates in providing an essential platform for dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan in June of this year and expressed her gratitude.
Issues related to the expansion of cooperation between the Ministries of Internal Affairs of the two countries became the subject of discussion. The parties agreed to organize mutual visits of delegations and develop a cooperation agenda based on them.
The signing of a memorandum of understanding marked the conclusion of the meeting.
The Memorandum, based on the principle of reciprocity, concerns the mutual recognition of driver's licenses issued by the Ministries of Internal Affairs of the two states, namely, citizens of Armenia who are in the United Arab Emirates for non-residential purposes can travel freely within the territory of that state with their national driver's license, and in the case of residence, the person applying for a driver's license exchange is exempted from the related theoretical and practical exams.
Arpine Sargsyan and Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan attached particular importance to the Memorandum. They emphasized that it represents a positive step in strengthening cooperation between the Ministries of Internal Affairs, aimed at alleviating citizens of the two states from unnecessary inconvenience.
