EU experts and FSIB discussed food safety reforms

Within the framework of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the European Union and the Republic of Armenia, Hayk Sargsyan, acting head of the Food Safety Inspection Body, and EU senior experts Alberto Mantovani, Ariano Dominique as well as senior expert Meline Beglaryan met to discuss issues related to improving Armenia's food safety system and bringing it into line with EU standards.

Considering that the emergence of ecological and organic products on the market creates new challenges for both the public and private sectors, they emphasized the importance of exchanging European experience and strengthening professional capacities aimed at providing Armenian consumers with high-quality and safe food.

Hayk Sargsyan informed that, although the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system has been included in the SATM checklists since 2022, its full implementation requires continuous capacity development to respond to new challenges effectively. In this context, the Food Safety Inspection Authority expects support in the area of systemic reforms and strengthening of institutional capacity for control.

The Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Armenia, signed in November 2017, entered into force in March 2021 and establishes a broad framework for cooperation, including in the areas of food production, marketing, and foreign trade.
