On September 16, the Armenian Embassy in the Federal Republic of Germany hosted an official reception at the TUMO Center in Berlin to mark the 34th anniversary of the Republic of Armenia's independence. The Armenian Embassy in Germany informs that the event was attended by German government officials, Bundestag deputies, ambassadors accredited to the Federal Republic of Germany, diplomats, representatives of city authorities, and members of the Armenian community.
Opening remarks were delivered by the Armenian Ambassador to Germany, Viktor Yengibaryan, and the Commissioner for Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia of the Federal Foreign Office, Niklas Wagner.
In his speech, the Ambassador particularly noted: "The path to independence was the conscious decision of the Armenian people to live freely, independently, and with dignity. Values that remain central to the Armenian people today. Independent statehood is not only a component of national security but also an expression of the culture of sovereignty, democracy, and peaceful living. A way of life to which the Republic of Armenia is committed."
Speaking about the agreements reached in Washington, he particularly emphasized: "From now on, the logic of peace, not conflict, will prevail in our entire region. The agreement on peace and the normalization of interstate relations opens up wide opportunities not only for Armenia, but also for neighboring countries and the European Union."
The Armenian Ambassador highly appreciated the interstate relations between Armenia and Germany, the high level of political dialogue, and active bilateral cooperation in many areas. At the end of his speech, he expressed special gratitude for the hospitality of the TUMO Center in Berlin.
In his speech, the Commissioner for Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia of the German Foreign Ministry, Niklas Wagner, particularly noted: "With the peace treaty initialed in Washington on August 8, Armenia and Azerbaijan have opened a new page in their history. Both countries are ready to resolve complex issues through negotiations and make difficult compromises.
Together with the United States and European partners, Germany has long provided active political support to the peace negotiations. We will continue to provide political and humanitarian support to Armenia, together with our EU partners, as it continues its process of normalizing relations with neighboring Azerbaijan. We know from our own history of reconciliation with our neighbors that lasting peace takes time."
