Mysterious "garbage balls" again on New South Wales beaches

Grey, spherical masses measuring 10-40mm in diameter have once again appeared on the central coast of New South Wales. Local authorities are warning that you should not touch these balls and avoid beaches where they occur.

Previous studies have shown that these balls are associated with human activity and contain cooking oil, soap residue, hair, and even traces of medicines. According to experts, the cause may be an overloaded sewage system or a runoff of sewage due to heavy rains.

Chemical analyses are still underway to determine the exact composition and origin of the garbage balls. In the meantime, authorities are urging people to stay away from beaches.
