Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan met with the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Michael O'Flaherty on March 11 as part of her working visit to Strasbourg.
The interlocutors touched upon several human rights issues, including the work carried out to overcome discrimination, hate speech, an atmosphere of intolerance, and the protection of rights in places of deprivation of liberty. They also discussed the importance of a safe environment for the activities of Human Rights Defender institutions and human rights defenders.
The Defender specifically addressed the problematic nature of the processes carried out against ethnic Armenians arbitrarily detained in Azerbaijan from a human rights perspective.
Anahit Manasyan also emphasized the importance of the Defender and the Human Rights Defender institution cooperating with civil society organizations.
Issues related to the possibilities of expanding cooperation in the protection and promotion of human rights were discussed, among other things.
