"Liberalization of the electricity market has had a significant positive impact on Armenia." CPC President

On February 27-28, the Chairman of the Competition Protection Commission, Gegham Gevorgyan, participated in the conference in Budapest dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the formation of the Regional Center for Competition of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

Within the conference's framework, Gegham Gevorgyan made a speech at the discussion on issues related to the liberalization of markets and barriers to entry, presenting the Republic of Armenia's experience in the liberalization of the energy market, which began in 2022.

"It can be confidently said that the liberalization of the electricity market has had a significant positive impact on ensuring a competitive and stable energy sector in Armenia. Moreover, we can already see that as a result of the reforms, the average prices for qualified large consumers in the case of purchasing electricity from the liberalized segment of the market have decreased," noted the President of the CPC.

The Center is a collaborative project between the OECD and the Hungarian Competition Authority, which aims to promote the development of competition law and policy enforcement capacity in Southeastern and Eastern Europe.
