Armenian-Iranian good-neighborly relations are distinguished by our peoples' unique warmth, mutual trust, and respect. Vahe Ghalumyan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Territorial Administration, Local Self-Government, Agriculture and Environmental Protection of the RA NA, stated this during a meeting with Mehdi Sobhani, Ambassador Extraordinaire and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Armenia. The meeting occurred on February 25, and David Danielyan, a committee member, participated.
Vahe Ghalumyan noted that the two countries are the best examples of dialogue between different civilizations, religions, and cultures.
The ambassador noted that relations between Armenia and Iran have a long history and great potential for developing cooperation. He emphasized the existence of political will, which creates opportunities for developing relations in various fields.
Mehdi Sobhani informed that a noticeable development of cooperation between the two countries has been recorded in the economic sphere. In particular, it was noted that in 2024, the volume of trade between the two countries amounted to $755 million. Currently, Iranian companies are implementing projects worth $460 million in Armenia. The ambassador touched upon constructing the 32-km Agarak-Qajaran road section, which an Iranian company is also implementing.
"If we want to develop trade, we must provide appropriate infrastructure," the ambassador noted, speaking about prospective programs and cooperation.
Vahe Ghalumyan, emphasizing the deepening of cooperation with Iran, noted that Iran has been and remains a unique partner for Armenia, which, with its balanced policy, contributes to the establishment of peace and strengthening stability in the region. "We highly appreciate the position repeatedly expressed by the Iranian leadership on the territorial integrity of Armenia and the inviolability of its borders," said the committee chairman. He discussed the "Crossroads of Peace" project, highlighting Iran's assistance.
Vahe Ghalumyan emphasized the importance of parliamentary cooperation in promoting cooperation between the two countries.
The parties expressed their readiness to support the implementation of any initiative that would promote the prosperity of the two friendly states and ensure security and stability in the region.
