RA Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan received the Representative of the United Nations Children's Fund in the Republic of Armenia, Christine Weigand. Both sides positively assessed the daily effective and reliable cooperation. The priorities of the Ministry for 2025 were presented, which coincided with the program priorities of the United Nations Children's Fund. Reference was made to the reforms in the field of juvenile justice, in particular the work of the Interdepartmental Council for Juvenile Justice, as well as the creation and development of Barnahus centers. In this context, the Ministry of Justice has always had the support of UNICEF.
The Minister emphasized the importance of ensuring the proper functioning of the Barnahus centers, particularly the effective use of the two existing centers by investigative bodies and establishing centers in other regions. He proposed continuing training courses to develop the capacities of psychologists and investigators. It should be recalled that to organize measures to ensure child-centered approaches and conditions in the process of organizing the interrogation of child victims and witnesses, a training course called "Development of the capacities of specialists - psychologists and investigators for the application of the Barnahus model" was implemented with the support of UNICEF, in which a total of 120 specialists—investigators, prosecutors, qualified psychologists, social workers, and other specialists—participated. At the meeting, a proposal was made to assist the Ministry in developing mechanisms for the activities and capacity development of psychologists involved in investigative actions.
The partners also discussed the importance of implementing joint programs to educate minors serving sentences in penitentiary institutions.
At the end of the meeting, the United Nations Children's Fund was emphasized for its support of new justice sector programs.
