Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Ghazaryan received the first EU expert mission on February 10 as part of the development of the Action Plan for the Liberalization of Visas to the European Union.
Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the European Commission's Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs, the Directorate-General for Neighborhood Enlargement Negotiations, the European External Action Service, FRONTEX, and the EU Delegation attended the meeting.
The Deputy Minister touched upon several crucial topics in the process of visa liberalization, particularly the current migration situation, the introduction of new biometric documents, citizenship issues, migration and asylum management, and digitalization processes.
Speaking about the comprehensive reforms underway in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Armen Ghazaryan assured that, as a result of close cooperation with the EU, significant progress has been recorded in a number of areas under the Ministry of Internal Affairs' mandate. In this context, he particularly touched upon the areas of migration, citizenship, and the police.
EU mission experts will analyze the current situation and problems in Armenia on February 10-14, contributing to the definition of a list of relevant benchmarks, which is necessary for liberalizing EU visas for Armenian citizens.
During the meeting, exhaustive answers were given to the questions of the EU mission representatives.
