On December 11, a meeting of high-ranking officials was held in Yerevan within the operational phase of the dialogue on the liberalization of RA-EU visas, led by RA Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan and Deputy Director General of Migration and Home Affairs of the European Commission Johannes Luchner.
During the meeting, the reforms implemented in document security, border and migration management, mobility, and asylum, the fight against corruption and organized crime, and the protection of fundamental human rights, which are crucial in visa liberalization, were discussed. The EU was also mentioned for further support in implementing the planned reforms.
The parties confirmed that the process is substantive and that there is no mechanical deadline for completing it. High-ranking officials agreed that the next steps in the visa liberalization process will be the two official missions in 2025, within the framework of which relevant experts from the EU structures will analyze existing problems.
The mentioned missions will contribute to defining the list of relevant benchmarks necessary to achieve the liberalization of EU visas for RA citizens in the future.
The Minister of Internal Affairs stressed that RA considers the plan of action for visa liberalization a strategic road map for the development of migration, mobility, and public security.
Johannes Luchner thanked for the reception and emphasized his willingness to work intensively.
