The delegation headed by Minister of Environment Hakob Simidyan is participating in the 16th Conference of Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification in Saudi Arabia.
The conference will bring high-level representatives from dozens of countries to discuss the global desertification and land restoration challenges.
Armenia has an active role in this process, making clear commitments. In particular, the government aims to restore the carbon stocks lost in 2000–2010 by 2.8% from the current level.
In recent years, Armenia has taken significant steps toward international cooperation. In 2023, a session of the Intergovernmental Working Group on Drought was held in Yerevan. In 2024, the country hosted the national coordinators of the Central and Eastern European countries to discuss the drafts of the convention's main decisions.
The ministry informs that Armenia's delegation, which also includes the prime minister's chief adviser, Hambardzum Matevosyan, aims to present the country's position and participate in developing universal environmental strategies at this conference.
