The European Union-Armenia dialogue on visa liberalization was officially launched on September 9 of this year. For this purpose, the Vice-President of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas, arrived in Yerevan. On November 5, the EU delegation was in Yerevan to develop the plan for negotiations on visa liberalization with the Armenian side.
According to a government statement released on September 9, the Armenian government and the European Commission will work closely to ensure a smooth and effective dialogue.
The message stated, "At the core of the process will be a merit-based and progress-based approach. Therefore, the process will last as long as necessary, not assuming an automatic transition to a visa-free regime. All benchmarks must be fully met before the Council of the EU and the European Parliament adopt the final decision on the liberalization of the visa regime. "
The visa liberalization process seems to be moving forward step by step. However, one should keep in mind the experience of all the countries that have gone through the "rocky" path; Radar Armenia tried to find out what problems Armenia will overcome on the way to Europe without a visa, in which areas reforms are planned, whether only reforms are enough to get the job done, or whether additional political efforts are needed.
