On October 9, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan received the delegation of Florence Bauer, Regional Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFP) for Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Migration and Citizenship Service, Armen Ghazaryan, was also present at the meeting.
Welcoming the guests, Arpine Sargsyan emphasized practical cooperation with the foundation as a reliable and constructive partner, especially in combating domestic violence. In particular, he emphasized the unprecedented training jointly implemented for the capacity building of 1,800 community police officers. He expressed confidence that the subsequent expanded training will allow the construction of institutional capacities for community police reforms. The deputy minister also referred to the reforms of the services subordinate to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, legislative initiatives, and ways of expanding cooperation.
The UN Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Florence Bauer, thanked for the warm reception and welcomed the progress and success of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reforms. He expressed his willingness to continue practical cooperation and expand it, adding that the Ministry of Internal Affairs sectorial reforms can serve as an exemplary international experience.
The meeting discussed the reforms of the police sector, the liberalization of visas with the EU, the reforms of migration management, the implementation of the new demographic strategy of Armenia, the operational use of the "Safe You" application and other issues of mutual interest.
Both sides agreed to expand practical cooperation.
