Minister Hakob Simidyan received the delegation from the Global Director of the Partnership Support Office of the National Level Actions.
Within the framework of participation in the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP 28) in 2023, Minister Hakob Simidyan had a bilateral meeting with Pablo Vieira, the Global Director of the Support Office of the Partnership for Peace and Security, and invited him to Armenia.
The delegation of the Support Office of the Partnership for Cooperation with Azerbaijan arrived in Armenia within the framework of the invitation.
Let's remember that the Republic of Armenia joined the NAO partnership in August 2018 to implement the "Nationally Determined Actions" (NAO) effectively.
The Ministries of Environment and Economy have been appointed as coordinating bodies, and the United Nations Development Program has been appointed as a supporting partner.
The GCC Partnership brings together more than 200 members, including 115 developed and developing countries and more than 80 institutions, to develop and implement ambitious climate policies and programs to achieve the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Welcoming the partners, Minister Hakob Simidyan highly appreciated the work of the SAA Partnership Support Office with developed countries and expressed hope that this visit will serve as an excellent opportunity to evaluate the steps taken by the Republic of Armenia in the climate agenda and to help make them more effective. "The government of the Republic of Armenia has a responsible attitude regarding the effective management of climate risks in terms of its obligations and we have a great desire to make our actions more effective," the minister noted.
Pablo Vieira, in turn, highlighted the importance of the visit in assessing the country's needs. "First, allow me to congratulate you on the approval of the low-carbon strategy and highlight Armenia's achievements in terms of the upcoming EPA and the development of the new climate law. In all these directions, the Support Office of the ASR Partnership is ready to assist the country."
At the end of the meeting, the partners referred to the organizational work of the summary of the progress of the implementation of the National Level Actions (NLA) 3.0 scheduled for October 11 and the official presentation of the "NLA Partner Support Coordination Plan."
