RA Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan received the delegation headed by Claire Ovey, Director General of the General Directorate for Human Rights and Rule of Law.
Pavlo Pushkar and Tatiana Kozhokaru, representatives of the ECHR judgments enforcement department; Maxim Longange, head of the Yerevan Council office; Liparit Drmeyan, head of the Office of the Representative on International Legal Affairs, and representatives of the Office of the Representative on International Legal Affairs and the Office of the Human Rights Defender attended the meeting.
The discussion's key topic was implementing the European Court of Human Rights judgments against the Republic of Armenia. Among other things, reference was made to the cases of deaths in the armed forces in non-combat conditions, cases of ill-treatment and the effectiveness of the investigation of these cases, manifestations of ill-treatment by the police, the use of disproportionate force, the investigation of cases in the mentioned cases, the investigation of hate crimes.
Anahit Manasyan emphasized the importance of program cooperation with the Council of Europe, stressing that jointly implemented programs are critical for human rights protection.
"All the issues in the execution of ECHR judgments, which we will discuss today, are of primary importance to me; we regularly work in this direction and make public statements," said Anahit Manasyan.
The Defender noted that he addressed the issues mentioned above in detail within the annual report's framework, presenting proposals for their solution. Among other things, the Defender emphasized taking active steps by the competent authorities towards implementing the proposals mentioned.
Within the discussion, issues related to the cooperation of the Ombudsman institution and the General Directorate for Human Rights and Rule of Law were also touched upon, particularly the organization of activities aimed at developing the capacities of the HRD staff. Summarizing, the parties thanked each other for the meeting and constructive discussion.
