On August 28, Deputy Ministers of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan and Aram Hovhannisyan and the US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia Kristina Kvien visited Sevan to attend the extended training courses of Water Patrols.
Ken Het, an instructor from the USA, introduced the details of the water patrol training courses for working with suspects on the lake, rescue response, first aid, and improving the technical skills of boating.
Regarding personal and water safety during water patrols, the instructor highlighted the importance of crew management and work coordination by the squad leader in risky conditions. He also emphasized the peculiarities of employee teamwork in different situations.
The attendees watched the actions and demonstration tricks of the water patrols in complex scenarios in Lake Sevan.
According to the scenario, as a result of search operations, the patrols found an injured citizen. They demonstrated practical skills in first aid and rescue operations.
The water patrols demonstrated technical tricks to arrest the suspect and transfer him to the patrol boat in the following situation.
In addition to planned scenario situations, the instructor played an impromptu situation. One of the members of the patrol order suddenly appeared in the water. Water patrols immediately went to work. They pulled out the victim with the help of a rope and provided first aid.
In the end, those present shared their impressions. They highly appreciated the Water Patrolmen's professional training in ensuring the safe rest of citizens and maintaining public order.
Commenting on the effectiveness of training for the development of water patrol skills, instructor Ken Het emphasized the importance of the periodicity of the courses, which will contribute to quick response in specific situations and improvement of abilities.
The training courses were conducted by the Office of Counter-Narcotics and Law Enforcement Cooperation (INL) of the US Embassy.
