On August 12, at 02:02 local time (at 22:02 GMT), the seismological network of the Seismic Protection Territorial Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia recorded an earthquake at the geographical coordinates of 40.20⁰ north latitude and 45.22⁰ east longitude: Armenia, Martuni 9 km northwest of the city, a 4.2 magnitude earthquake with a depth of 10 km.
The strength of the underground shock in the epicentral zone was 5-6 points.
The earthquake, which had a magnitude of 5 in the Gegharkunik region, a magnitude of 4 in the Kotayk region, and a magnitude of 2-3 in Yerevan city, was felt.
