On July 11, the USA's Independence Day was celebrated in Kapan, the regional center of Syunik. The celebration was held for the first time in Syunik and was organized by the US Embassy in Armenia.
US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary attended the event to RA Christina Quinn, Governor of the Syunik region Robert Ghukasyan, RA Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan, Head of the Police Patrol Service of the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs Artur Khudinyan, community heads of the Syunik region, governor's office, municipal governments, US diplomatic corps in RA, representatives of structures implementing programs in the region with US support, beneficiaries of various programs.
At the beginning of the celebration, the national anthems of Armenia and the USA were played.
Ambassador Kvien thanked those present in her speech for their friendship and partnership.
"We understand that recent years have been full of challenges for Syunik. And today, celebrating our Independence Day here in Kapan, we again demonstrate our strong cooperation with the region and our readiness to continue joint efforts and work with Syunik and its communities around our common goals," said the high-ranking diplomat.
Kristina Kvien also praised 2023. He thanked the state and local government bodies and the political society for the great work done in Syunik in accepting the displaced people from Nagorno-Karabakh and responding to their needs first.
Governor Robert Ghukasyan welcomed the guests and thanked them for celebrating the holiday in Syunik for the first time. He also sent congratulatory wishes to the ambassador, the representatives of the US Embassy in Armenia, and the friendly American people on the occasion of the most important state holiday.
"On the occasion of the day, I want to mention the socio-economic, cultural, educational, and human capital development and almost all projects implemented in Syunik by the US Embassy, the US International Development Agency, and many other American organizations from the independence of RA until now. They brought changes in the life of the province and its residents.
I also want to emphasize and thank you for the continuous support of the US in the process of facing the emergencies and various challenges in Syunik due to the new geopolitical conditions in the region. In his speech, we highly value bilateral cooperation and have established solid partnerships and friendly ties," the governor said.
Robert Ghukasyan also highlighted the US support for state institutions, the establishment of the legal sphere, reforms in state structures, and especially in the establishment and development of democracy in Armenia, which the Republic of Armenia expects from now on the support of a friendly country. The festive event ended with a festive reception.
