Papoyan discussed the process of diversification of the Armenian economy with US officials

On May 14, RA Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan met with Matthew Axelrod, Deputy Secretary of the US Department of Commerce for Export Control Affairs of the Industry and Security Agency, in Washington. Lilit Makunts, Ambassador of Armenia to the USA, and Narek Hovakimyan, Deputy Minister of Economy, participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, the interlocutors referred to the process of diversification of the Armenian economy and discussed increasing the volumes of RA-US bilateral trade, as well as other issues of mutual interest, in particular, the designation of the Republic of Armenia as a beneficiary country in the "Verified End User" program, the implementation of some American organizations in the territory of the Republic of Armenia, regarding restrictions on exports, granting the Republic of Armenia "market economy status," and other processes.

The Minister also met with Jason Hafemeiste, the Deputy Undersecretary of State for Commerce and Agriculture of the US Department of Agriculture, on the same day.

During the meeting, possible steps to increase the Republic of Armenia's food security, the possibility of increasing the volume of agricultural products exported from the Republic of Armenia to the USA, the necessary regulations, and the possibility of providing technical assistance in the field of agriculture were discussed. During the meetings, agreements were reached regarding the further continuity of work in all the indicated directions.
