On April 24, an event dedicated to the 109th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide took place near the Franz Werfel monument in Vienna's Schiller Square. Bishop Petrosyan, the Pontifical Delegate of Central Europe and Sweden to Tirana, performed a commemoration ceremony for the canonized martyrs.
Armenian Ambassador to Austria Armen Papikyan made a speech and thanked the Austrian people and authorities for recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide. He noted that the lack of unequivocal condemnation of crimes committed in the past, the atmosphere of impunity and denial prepare fertile ground for new crimes against humanity, which the civilized world once again witnessed in 2020-2023 when the entire Armenian population of Nagorno Karabakh was subjected to ethnic cleansing.
Ambassador Papikyan emphasized Armenia's continuous efforts on international platforms to prevent new genocides and crimes against humanity and protect the rights of victims. The event was attended by Austrian public and political figures, representatives of the diplomatic corps, and the Austrian Armenian community.
