Armenia will host the upcoming Mars analog mission of the Austrian Space Forum. The main sponsor of the scientific campaign is "GTB Holdings." The simulation mission of "AMADEE-24," prestigious in the space field, will be held in Armenia. The work will start in March and last for a month.
During the scientific expedition "From Armenia to Mars," analog astronauts will prepare for flights to Mars. The scientific expedition will be carried out by simulating the Martian environment on Earth, which the Austrian support center will manage. About 300 researchers from 30 countries will participate, and the results will be transmitted to the analog astronauts. A small group of highly trained analog astronauts will conduct various scientific experiments in simulated spacesuits, setting the stage for future human and robotic missions to Mars.
The Austrian Space Forum and the Aerospace Agency of Armenia signed a memorandum in April 2023. The test site was chosen from the Ararat region due to its geological and topographical similarity with the Martian environment. Two working groups from Armenia will participate in Mars research.
