The General Secretary of the Inter-Parliamentary Union has arrived in Armenia.

RA NA Speaker Alen Simonyan received the delegation led by the General Secretary of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Martin Chungong, on January 29. NA Deputy Speaker Hakob Arshakyan also participated in the meeting.

Welcoming the guest, Alen Simonyan thanked the Inter-Parliamentary Union for its involvement in establishing peace in the region.

The head of the Parliament noted that the NA delegation has always been one of the active members of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, whose deputies are represented in the leadership of various organizational bodies.

Referring to the ongoing negotiations with Azerbaijan on signing the Peace Treaty, the Speaker of the National Assembly emphasized that the Armenian side is in a constructive mood and is open to discussions that will contribute to the document's signing process.

"Armenia is a democratic country; this is already a fact. We have done everything and are doing everything to establish peace in the region with our international partners," stressed Alen Simonyan.

Martin Chungong highly appreciated Armenia's efforts in peace negotiations and noted that the Inter-Parliamentary Union will support the implementation of the peace treaty in every possible way.

Reference was also made to the global forum of young deputies of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), which will be held in 2024 in Armenia.
