HRD referred to fact-finding activities

Human rights defender Anahit Manasyan received the delegation led by Member of the European Parliament Geoffrey Didier. Welcoming the guests, Anahit Manasyan presented issues about protecting the rights of people forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh.

The defender referred explicitly to the fact-finding activities carried out by him personally and by his staff, during which information was obtained about the deaths, tortures, disrespect of bodies, mutilations, and ill-treatment of civilians as a result of Azerbaijani aggression, which are prohibited by international law.

During the meeting, Anahit Manasyan presented the priorities of the Human Rights Defender institution to the members of the delegation, stressing that the whole world today is living in a period full of challenges where it is necessary to protect human fundamental rights and freedoms more consistently and diligently.

The defender noted that a public council for the protection and promotion of the rights of persons belonging to national minorities under the RA Human Rights Defender was established, which aims to contribute to the adequate protection and promotion of the rights of persons belonging to national minorities as a result of joint work with representatives of national minorities and civil society.

For his part, Geoffrey Didier thanked the reception, highlighting the activities of the Ombudsman's institution in strengthening the proper human rights protection system.
