Criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding the death of a serviceman from an enemy sniper's shot
On December 4, 2023, a report was received from the military police of the RA Defense Ministry that on the same day, around 2:35 p.m., serviceman Gerasim Arakelyan received an indirect bullet wound from an enemy sniper while performing engineering work in the combat position of the N military unit of the RA Defense Ministry.
On the same day, the soldier died of a gunshot wound on the way to the medical center.
Bearing in mind that there are apparent characteristics of unlawfully depriving the life of a serviceman of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan with the motive of hatred, intolerance, or enmity caused by racial, national, or ethnic origin, regarding the incident in the Eighth Garrison Investigation Department of the Main Military Investigation Department of the RA Investigative Committee, RA Criminal proceedings were initiated by points 1 and 15 of Part 2 of Article 155 of the Code.
A forensic medical examination of the body was performed.
An investigation is underway.
Urgent evidentiary and procedural actions are being taken to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
