Vigen Kocharyan received the UN special rapporteurs

High Judicial Council member Vigen Kocharyan today received the UN Special Rapporteur on the Promotion of Truth, Justice, Reparation, and Guarantees of Non-Repetition, Fabian Salvioli, and Human Rights Officer Brenda Vukovich.

The members of the delegation were interested in the creation of the Supreme Judicial Council, its functions, the reforms taking place in the judicial system, the independence of judges, as well as the course of measures implemented in the fight against corruption.

After answering the questions of the guests, Vigen Kocharyan presented to them the improvements made in the current legal regulations in the last 5 years, as well as the radical reforms that have taken place in the judicial system in the previous year, which will lead both to the reduction of the burden on the courts and to the improvement of the quality of justice, as well as the shortening of the trial periods.

The member of the Supreme Judicial Council presented the new tools developed in Armenia in recent years to fight corruption, emphasizing especially the role of the Corruption Prevention Commission in the process of appointing judges, pointing out that it contributes to replenishing the judicial system with judges who have already passed a good character check.

At the end of the meeting, Vigen Kocharyan thanked the UN special rapporteur for his visit and highlighted their mission in Armenia, and the guests, in turn, expressed their satisfaction for a meaningful and vital conversation.
