Belgium attaches importance to justice sector reforms and is ready to implement programs in that direction

Minister of Justice Grigor Minasyan received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Belgium to Armenia, Eric De Muynck.
Grigor Minasyan congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment and welcomed the Belgian government's decision to open an embassy in Yerevan, enabling the development of Armenian-Belgian relations.

The already established bilateral cooperation in mutual legal assistance was highlighted.
Grigor Minasyan expressed his gratitude to the Kingdom of Belgium for the messages addressed to Nagorno Karabakh within the framework of the UN Security Council session.

Ambassador Eric De Muynck thanked for the warm welcome and expressed his support for justice sector reforms.
The Ambassador welcomed the efforts of the Republic of Armenia in ratifying the Rome Statute, as it will contribute to the prevention of crimes against humanity. In this context, the minister emphasized the importance of sharing experience.

The work to be carried out in the fight against domestic violence and the possibility of cooperation was emphasized on both sides. The minister informed that several changes have been made in the legislative field in the fight against domestic violence, but there is still work to be done in this direction.
The parties discussed the sectoral reforms implemented by the Ministry in the fight against corruption. The minister emphasized that the new Anti-corruption strategy will be adopted soon, which outlines the main directions, thanks to which the fight against corruption will continue. The works to be carried out in the order of the development of the signaling institute were also mentioned.

The Ambassador was also interested in the work to be carried out to ease the burden on the judicial system. In response, the minister noted that currently, active works are being carried out in the direction of the digitization of the justice sector; in addition, some civil cases of confiscation of money were withdrawn from the court of general jurisdiction and handed over to the jurisdiction of notaries. Grigor Minasyan emphasized that due to the increase in judges' salaries, working in the judicial system has become attractive; besides, the judicial system has been replenished with new judges by passing a complex exam by international standards.

Grigor Minasyan presented the effectiveness of using house arrest and administrative control measures and directions of cooperation. A reference was made to implementing possible programs to develop the capacities of incarcerated persons serving sentences in penitentiary institutions.

At the end of the meeting, the parties discussed other issues of mutual interest.
