The defender emphasized the necessity of guaranteeing the rights of forcibly displaced persons of RA

The RA HRD office reported that human rights defender Anahit Manasyan received the senior judge of the Swedish National Courts Department, Björn Linden, and the deputy head of the International Relations Department of the Legal Department, Ludwig Becking. 

The Defender welcomed the guests and presented issues about protecting the rights of people forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh. In this context, Anahit Manasyan referred to the problems raised in primary needs assessment centers during the fact-finding activities carried out by her and the staff.

The Defender emphasized the necessity of adequately guaranteeing the rights of forcibly displaced persons in the Republic of Armenia. Anahit Manasyan also presented the severe humanitarian problems caused by the Azerbaijani aggression and the violations of fundamental human rights.

The Defender also presented the priorities of the institution's activities, emphasizing his determination to continue the fight against intolerance, discrimination, and hate speech, as well as the implementation of work to ensure equality of rights.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the progress of the multi-year project "Developing the capacity of Armenian judges to meet new expectations of the judicial system and strengthen public trust," emphasizing the importance of continuous improvement of the justice system as well as increasing the efficiency of cooperation between courts and mass media, expressing confidence that it will increase public confidence in the judiciary.

At the end of the meeting, the guests expressed their gratitude for the reception, highly evaluated the role of national human rights protection institutions in guaranteeing human rights, and expressed confidence in future cooperation.
