On October 2, RA NA Speaker Alen Simonyan received the delegation led by the Chairman of the Cyprus-Armenia Interparliamentary Commission of the Cyprus House of Representatives, Haris Georgiades.
Alen Simonyan expressed his gratitude for another resolution unanimously adopted by the House of Representatives of Cyprus a few days ago, which condemns the large-scale aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against the people of Nagorno-Karabakh and the policy of ethnic cleansing.
He highly appreciated the principled speech of Anita Dimitriou, Speaker of the Parliament of Cyprus, which was held in Dublin on September 28, where the crimes against the people of Nagorno Karabakh were raised, and the international community was called upon to take immediate steps to prevent ethnic cleansing.
Humanitarian issues related to our compatriots forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh were discussed at the meeting. The Cypriot parliamentarians noted that the slogan of solidarity towards Armenia guides them and that they are ready to support Armenia as much as possible. According to the commission's Chairman, our countries have the same challenges and similar pacifism, so they are more sensitive to each other's pain.
Bilateral agenda issues of the legislative bodies were also discussed at the meeting, highlighting the critical role of the inter-parliamentary cooperation committees operating in the parliaments.
