On June 27, RA Minister of Internal Affairs Vahe Ghazaryan received the delegation led by the executive director of Europol, Catherine de Bolle, and the head of the EU delegation in RA, Ambassador Andrea Wiktorin. The meeting was attended by Sebastian Moras, Chief of Staff of the Executive Director of Europol; Tamara Schotte, Head of the Analysis and Strategic Coordination Department; Iliya Pulov, Senior Advisor of the Staff; Tigran Balayan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
During the meeting, Minister of Internal Affairs Vahe Ghazaryan referred to 2021. to the working agreement on cooperation between the two law enforcement agencies signed on September 28, which created a legal basis for cooperation in several areas of combating transnational crime. He noted that the memorandum of understanding "On a secure channel between the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs and the EU Law Enforcement Cooperation Agency" and the Agreement "On cooperation between the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs and the EU Law Enforcement Cooperation Agency" also derives from the agreement, which is already ready for signing.
The Minister of Internal Affairs emphasized that these documents will serve as a basis for a safe and quick exchange of information between Europol and Armenia's law enforcement agencies and for having a liaison officer in Europol. Vahe Ghazaryan thanked the colleagues of the Europol office, the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the RA Embassy in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs employees for their involvement and active participation in the preparation of the Agreement.
He assured that the solid legal basis would raise the cooperation between Armenia's law enforcement agencies and Europol to a new level, which will provide an opportunity to further improve bilateral cooperation with the law enforcement agencies of the European Union member states in the fight against transnational crime, terrorism, cybercrime and other types of crime. Catherine de Boll, Executive Director of Europol, emphasized the importance of the memorandum of understanding and the cooperation agreement, discussing the possibilities of a secure channel and information exchange, especially in law enforcement.
He also spoke about the practical support provided to EU member states in the fight against serious and organized crime and terrorism. At the end of the meeting, the parties signed the memorandum of understanding "On a secure channel between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia and the EU Law Enforcement Cooperation Agency" and the agreement "On cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia and the EU Law Enforcement Cooperation Agency." The parties expressed readiness to continue and strengthen the practical cooperation.
