"Azerbaijani officials are speaking words of hatred towards Armenians;" HRD of RA

Human rights defender Anahit Manasyan met today, June 20, with Teresa Ribeiro, a representative of the OSCE press freedom issues, as part of her visit to Vienna. Anahit Manasyan presented the priorities of the Defender's activity, emphasizing the importance of the works and programs carried out to exclude hate speech.

Issues related to guaranteeing the right to free expression of opinion by the media and ensuring the safety of journalists were also discussed, and the importance of the media in establishing a democratic society was emphasized. The importance of keeping the rules of ethics by journalists from the point of view of ensuring professional media activity was noted.

In her turn, Teresa Ribeiro congratulated Anahit Manasyan on assuming the critical mission of the Human Rights Defender, emphasizing the role of national institutions engaged in protecting human rights in realizing the right to freedom of speech and press.

Within the framework of the meeting, the Defender expressly referred to the anti-Armenian policy of Azerbaijan, sponsored by the state and manifested at all levels of society.

"HRD staff monitors the Azerbaijani media and social platforms daily. Words of hatred against Armenians are voiced at all levels of society, including high-ranking officials of Azerbaijan," the Defender noted.
