Armenia submitted a bid to host COP29

Today, Minister of Environment Hakob Simidyan received the Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the Republic of Armenia, Mrs. Ahlam AlSalami.
Climate issues were on the agenda of the meeting, in particular, the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), which will be held in the UAE from November 30 to December 12.

Welcoming the guests at the Ministry of Environment, the minister first congratulated the United Arab Emirates on being chosen as the host and chairing country of the COP28 conference and effectively evaluated the cooperation between the governments of the Republic of Armenia and the United Arab Emirates.

"Armenia is deeply committed to further integration into the global processes of combating climate change, not only by declaring an ambitious climate agenda but also by proposing concrete solutions and engaging in negotiations to complete the mechanisms and agreements necessary to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement," the minister noted.

During the meeting, Ms. Ahlam AlSalami presented the preparations for the COP28 conference, the preliminary agenda, and the directions the countries will discuss.
Mrs. AlSalami expressed her willingness to be actively involved in forming the agenda to be presented by Armenia at the conference. She asked her Armenian partners to come up with suggestions and observations that would help make the country's participation in the most significant climate conference more systematic and practical.

Minister Hakob Simidyan said the Republic of Armenia applied to host the 29th Session of the Parties (COP29). The RA government is ready to make maximum efforts to host and hold the forum correctly. The parties discussed a wide range of issues related to COP28.

At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached to regularly organize similar meetings before the forum to achieve the desired results of Armenia's proper participation through cooperation and dialogue.
