It will take about 2 years to prepare and 8-10 years to build. the minister about the construction of the nuclear power plant

RA Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Gnel Sanosyan announced that the nuclear power plant operating in Armenia is subject to operation until 2036. According to him, a large amount of work is being done, so the license period will change from 2026 to 2036.

Regarding the plans for constructing a new nuclear power station, Sanosyan said this topic is already being discussed. According to him, the preparation phase is also quite long; it takes about 2 years to prepare and 8-10 years to build.

"Determining capacity is very complicated because there are many factors to consider. And since the new nuclear power plant has been being built for about 100 years, we have to make calculations for "2036+100" years; for example, calculate how much electricity we will give to Iran in 2080, or will we give it or not? Would you like us to send it to Georgia? What will Armenia-Turkey relations be like? Will Turkey take electricity from us or not, because the eastern regions of Turkey, for example, need it now," he said, adding:

"If you build a powerful nuclear power plant, for example, 1000 or 1200 megawatts (right now, our entire energy system is 1200), it turns out that you will have a plant that will produce all the demand of your country, and if your nuclear plant stops, what will happen to your country's economy?" and with the energy system."
