Human rights defender Anahit Manasyan stated the violation of the norms of international humanitarian law due to the aggression of the Azerbaijani armed forces in the direction of Sotk.

"Today, on May 17, the Human Rights Defender's staff received alerts that the Azerbaijani armed forces opened intense fire in the direction of the Sotk settlement of Gegharkunik region, towards the Armenian positions. As a result of the shootings, an RA soldier was injured.

The Azerbaijani armed forces opened targeted and aggressive fire at the ambulance transporting him, as a result of which the paramedic was also injured. The serviceman wounded due to Azerbaijani aggression died before being taken to the hospital.

The collected facts confirm that the fire was directed at the ambulance, which gives grounds for concluding that there was an intention to harm both the vehicle, the soldier, and the medical staff. The ambulance carrying the wounded serviceman had the appropriate logo and equipment.

It should be emphasized that targeting an ambulance and medical personnel violates the norms of international humanitarian law," the statement said.
