The office of the RA representative on international legal issues reports that the ECtHR rejected the request of the latter's relatives to apply an interim measure against the RA government for the protection of the rights of two citizens of Azerbaijan who crossed the border of the Republic of Armenia illegally.
"On May 9 of this year, the European Court of Human Rights rejected the request of the relatives of two Azerbaijani citizens who recently illegally crossed the RA border to apply an interim measure against the RA government, as defined by Rule 39 of the Rules of the European Court.
In particular, the European Court was requested to apply an interim measure on the grounds that two Azerbaijani servicemen are being treated in RA contrary to the right to life and the obligation to be free from torture. The Government of the Republic of Armenia presented to the European Court a proper position that the Convention rights of the Azerbaijani servicemen were properly guaranteed in the Republic of Armenia.
In this regard, the RA government has also submitted relevant evidence to the European Court. "The European Court, based on the RA government's position, rejected the request submitted by the relatives of the Azerbaijani servicemen to apply an interim measure against the RA," the representative's office reports.
