The location of the long-term observation mission of the EU on the territory of RA was highlighted

On February 27, the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, received the delegation led by the Deputy Chairman of the Bureau of the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Djuna Bernard.

RA NA Speaker noted that Luxembourg in Europe is an essential and reliable partner and friendly country for Armenia, and the further deepening of the political dialogue between the two countries is significant. Alen Simonyan noticed that last week was Luxembourg week in Armenia. On February 23, the Speaker of the National Assembly had a meaningful conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg, Jean Asselborn.

"We are happy that 30 years after establishing diplomatic relations, marking the unprecedented deepening of bilateral cooperation in recent years, Luxembourg is an ambassador (non-resident) accredited to Armenia. In this regard, we believe that the next logical step will be opening the Consulate General of Luxembourg in Armenia, which will also cover Georgia and Iran. I want to inform you that the Armenian government is discussing the issue of opening a consulate in Luxembourg," said the Speaker of the National Assembly.

In terms of strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations, the activity of friendly groups was emphasized on both sides. The Speaker of the RA National Assembly expressed gratitude for the resolutions adopted by the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg both during the 44-day war of 2020 and after it.

At the meeting, the challenges related to the Republic of Armenia and the people of Nagorno-Karabakh were discussed, particularly the problems related to the situation created due to the crisis in the Lachin Corridor.

In this context, the decision made by the International Court of Justice of the United Nations last week was mentioned, which creates a legal basis for the practical steps of the international actors, forcing Azerbaijan to open its way to life.

Thoughts were exchanged on the priority of the withdrawal of the Azerbaijani armed forces from the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, highlighting the deployment of the long-term observation mission of the EU in the part of the Republic of Armenia. I would like to remind you that the representative of friendly Luxembourg is also included in the mission.

At the end of the meeting, the Speaker of the RA National Assembly emphasized that our country remains committed to achieving peace and expects the support of international partners, including Luxembourg, in this regard.
