The Syunik region Governor Robert Ghukasyan met today in Goris with the French member of the European Parliament who arrived in Syunik, the head of the "Les Républicains - LR" party delegation in the European Parliament, Francois Xavier Bellamy, reports the Syunik region Governorate.
The governor accompanied him to the border checkpoint of the road connecting Armenia to Artsakh and to a meeting with Artsakh citizens who temporarily took refuge in Goris due to the closed road. The officials also had a private conversation, during which the French guest learned from Ghukasyan about the accommodation created in the region.
"Shortly, the deputy will give a speech in the European Parliament on the closure of the Berdzor corridor and its consequences. He came to Syunik to personally see what was happening here. He was interested in the Syunik borders and the Artsakh-Armenia road. Visiting the border post, he noted that the road was closed, and citizens could not pass through it. And the people of Artsakh living in Goris presented to the MP their most cherished desire to return to their homeland, despite the current severe socio-economic situation and humanitarian crisis there," the statement said.
According to Robert Ghukasyan, Francois Xavier Bellamy is showing that his country stands by the Armenian people. "And this is a clear signal because he is not the first official to visit Syunik. with this, France signals that it supports Armenia at all levels." The governor also gave an interview to the French media accompanying the deputy.
