A memorandum on the exchange of technical information and cooperation on nuclear security issues was signed with the United States

The executive committee approved the proposal to sign the agreement "on the exchange of technical information and cooperation on nuclear safety issues between the Nuclear Safety Regulatory Committee of the Republic of Armenia and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission of the United States of America."

According to the justification, the agreement was re-signed in 2007 and 2017, within which Armenia received support in several directions. In particular, staff preparation and training, expert support, modern devices, equipment provision, etc. In December 2021, the committee received a proposal from the US ISS to sign a new Agreement, which, in addition to the directions established by the previous agreements, expands cooperation on the issues of nuclear and radiation safety regulation in the field of atomic energy use. The new agreement will promote the exchange of advanced experience and knowledge on security issues and the introduction of new technologies.

The cooperation offered by the agreement is aimed at strengthening the regulatory infrastructure in Armenia and developing the skills and abilities of the personnel, which will contribute to the extension of the operational period of NPPs, in the licensing stages of the construction of a new NPP in Armenia, and the implementation of safety analysis and assessment. The scientific and technical assistance received under the agreement will contribute to physical protection, the performance of nuclear weapons non-proliferation guarantees, the safety of radioactive materials and waste, the implementation of environmental monitoring, and the development of security regulatory documents.
