On December 14, RA human rights defender Kristinne Grigoryan received the participants of the 4th Global Forum "Against the Crime of Genocide" organized by the RA Foreign Ministry, the UN special rapporteur Fabian Salvioli and the head of the UN independent investigation mechanism Nicholas Kumjian.
The 4th Global Forum "Against the Crime of Genocide" was entitled "Prevention of Genocide in the Age of New Technologies" and was dedicated to the issue of genocide prevention in the age of new technologies.
During the December 14 meeting, the Ombudsman and the forum participants discussed the challenges, opportunities, and prospects of using new technologies to prevent genocide.
The defender presented factual circumstances related to the Armenian hatred spread on social networks by Azerbaijan; in particular, he gave the 2022 facts regarding the consequences of the Azerbaijani aggression on September 13-14. According to the defender, it is worrying that the words of hatred based on ethnicity and religion, as well as gender, are encouraged by the Azerbaijani state at the state level and are continuous.
Kristine Grigoryan also expressed her concern that, unfortunately, such hostile speeches find a response among the Armenian public.
The defender spoke about the closure of the only road connecting Artsakh with Armenia and the world by a group of Azerbaijanis, as well as the termination of the gas supply, stressing that around 1,100 people are deprived of the opportunity to return to their homes, including more than 270 children, and 120,000 people living in Artsakh. A person stands on the threshold of a humanitarian disaster.
Kristine Grigoryan emphasized that international organizations should not ignore similar early impulses of genocidal policy, which would be a suitable means of effective prevention. During the meeting, Kristine Grigoryan answered the guests' questions, notably presented the mandate and functions of the HRD, and talked about the work done by the staff.
