On December 5, Human Rights Defender Kristine Grigoryan met with the US Deputy Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Erika Olson, in Washington.
The defender expressed her gratitude for the efforts made by the State Department to repatriate the Armenian prisoners of war and presented the difficulties and feelings that the families are going through, considering the informative and provocative environment created by the Azerbaijani side.
Deputy Olson noted that they continue to work towards solving many humanitarian issues, including returning prisoners of war, finding out the fate of missing persons, etc.
Kristine Grigoryan presented to the Deputy the special reports of the Defender's institution, in which they documented and analyzed the continuous violations of human rights during and after the Azerbaijani attack on September 13-14, the humanitarian problems of people living in the attacked communities, the facts of war crimes that the Defender's staff confirmed the findings based on the unique methodology, as well as the testimonies of prisoners of war, returned to Armenia, about the facts of torture and inhumane treatment during their detention in Azerbaijan.
The defender emphasized the issue of responsibility and the inevitability of punishment of those responsible for the committed crimes, regardless of the criminal's nationality.
Erika Olson emphasized the work of the Defender institution and thanked her for presenting important information in a timely and impartial manner.
