The perspectives of Armenian-German cooperation in the field of the environment were discussed

Environment Minister Hakob Simidyan received the German Ambassador to Armenia Victor Richter, the senior project portfolio manager of the German Reconstruction Loans Bank (KFW) Frank Moerschl, and the Armenian representative of the bank Zara Chatinyan. Deputy Minister Aram Meimaryan took part in the meeting. Welcoming the guests, the minister referred to the Armenian-German cooperative relations in the field of environment and their development prospects.

Expressing gratitude for the reception, the ambassador informed that the German government is pursuing the practical course of all implemented programs and is ready to expand the scope of cooperation. During the meeting, the series of one-week meetings of representatives of the agenda of the German Rehabilitation Loan Bank (KFW) with Deputy Minister Aram Meimaryan was summarized.

Reference was made to the program "Biodiversity and sustainable local development in Armenia," the total budget is around 26 million euros. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) provided the money through KfW Bank. Various issues related to updating and smooth implementation of the program were discussed.

2018 on April 7, an agreement on financial cooperation was signed between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the Federal Republic of Germany. According to the agreement, the Government of the GDR provides an opportunity for the Government of the Republic of Armenia to attract credit funds and financial assistance (including grants and technical assistance funds in the amount of more than 26 million euros) from the Rehabilitation Credit Bank ("KfW Bank") for environmental protection, renewable energy, trade promotion, as well as for the implementation of relevant programs in the areas of housing financing.

The grant funds provided within the framework of the program are aimed at the improvement and management of protected areas rich in biodiversity, natural resources, and natural monuments, supporting the sustainable management of forests, forest landscape, and forest restoration measures, socio-economic development measures in selected adjacent communities, measures to promote ecotourism, consulting services. The duration of the project is six years.

Frank Mörschl stated that there is noticeable progress, and many previously reported problems have already been overcome. The parties agreed to continue the meetings and discussions to ensure further mutually beneficial and comprehensive cooperation in all priority directions within the framework of Armenian-German cooperation.
