Syunik governor administration reported that on November 30, the governor of Syunik, Robert Ghukasyan, received the head of the delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Armenia, Thierry Ribault, and the representatives of the sub-delegation of Goris.
The governor expressed his gratitude for the 30 years of humanitarian activity of ICRC in Armenia and for the close and cooperative work with the regional government. Robert Ghukasyan emphasized the organization's presence in Syunik and its implemented programs' role in the lives of the residents of the region.
After the war of 2020, based on the needs, the committee also established a sub-delegation in Goris, thus being closer to Syunik and more actively implementing programs aimed at the problems of displaced persons, health, humanitarian fields, etc.
Thierry Ribault briefly presented (within the framework of their international mandate) the directions of the 30-year work in RA and the vision of future activities. It was noted that in Syunik, border settlements are mainly at the center of attention to support people to continue living where they are now.
Mr. Ribault also welcomed the initiative of the regional government, which came to life at the recently held workshop, bringing together all the international structures operating in Syunik and laying the foundation for their collective work here.
Robert Ghukasyan presented the challenges that the region's residents face in various fields after the wars of September 2020 and 2022. At the meeting, several processes within the scope of ICRC's mission were also discussed; in particular, the fate of prisoners and missing persons and psychological and other support provided to returnees were discussed.
