"On October 31, at the Vardenis community hall, the commander of the second army corps of the RA Armed Forces, colonel Vahram Grigoryan and the head of the Vardenis community, Aharon Khachatryan, met with the EU observation mission team led by the deputy head of the mission, Esben Rhys Peterson.
The team of European Union observers operating in the Gegharkunik region aims to patrol the part of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border passing through the Gegharkunik region. The mission will monitor the situation on the Armenian side of the wall to build confidence and support the border commissions.
Welcoming the EU mission's visit of observers to the Gegharkunik Region, I presented in detail the situation in the 12 settlements of Vardenis affected by shelling as a result of the aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan on September 13-14, 2022, which is related to the return of the evacuated population, the slow progress of agricultural works, damaged buildings and infrastructures. , schools, preschool institutions, other civil structures, and measures undertaken and implemented by the state administration and local self-government bodies in that direction.
Vahram Grigoryan, the commander of the second army corps of the RA Armed Forces, also presented the observers of the EU mission about the aggression unleashed by the enemy in different border areas of the Gegharkunik region and the resulting situation. The entry of EU observers into the region will enable a more objective assessment of the current situation and contribute to the peaceful settlement of problems.
The latter expressed their satisfaction with holding such a discussion and presenting meaningful and complete information. Then, together with the commander of the second army corps and the head of the Vardenis community, we accompanied the observation group of the EU mission to the settlements of Kutakan, Sotk, and Kut, which were affected by the enemy's shelling, to observe and record the current situation on the spot, to plan the directions of their future activities.
