"Armenia is firm in its position to achieve peace." Vahagn Khachaturyan

The President of the Republic Vahagn Khachaturyan received the Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East H.S.O. Mar Awa III Royel. The leaders of the dioceses of Syria, Iran, Armenia, and Georgia of the Assyrian Church of the East and Arsen Mikhailov, advisor to the RA Prime Minister, also participated in the meeting. Welcoming the guests, President Khachaturyan specifically noted:

"I am glad to meet you. The Assyrians actively created our newly independent state; they shared all the difficulties in the Republic of Armenia; I am sure our friendly and brotherly relations will continue in the future."

Catholicos-Patriarch H.S.O. Mar Awa III Royel, thanking the president for the reception, noted that this visit will serve the friendship of the Armenian and Assyrian peoples and will be an achievement not only for the Assyrian community but also for Armenians. The pastor emphasized that they are aware of the situation in Armenia and the region and pray for the Armenian people to receive a just and dignified peace.

During the meeting, President Vahagn Khachaturyan, at the guests' request, presented the current opportunities and obstacles for establishing stable and long-lasting peace in the region and emphasized that regardless of the problems, Armenia is firm in its position to achieve peace.

The Catholicos-Patriarch emphasized that he and the entire Assyrian community are praying for peace because they are sure that Armenia is the safe homeland of the Assyrians. In Armenia, they have the opportunity to preserve their national identity, language, and culture. They are ready to defend it, as they did during the 44-day war, during which the Assyrian community also suffered casualties.

At the end of the meeting, a bilateral agreement was reached to continue cooperation as much as possible.
