Issues of increasing the effectiveness of educational programs were discussed

Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Karen Trchunyan received the delegation led by the World Bank’s senior private sector specialist Ifeyinwa Onugan, which included senior economist Renata Freitas Lemos, consultants Javier Botero, Peter Lindholm, and Gohar Malumyan.

During the meeting, several issues related to increasing the efficiency of master's and postgraduate educational programs and the commercialization and modernization of science were discussed.

The deputy minister of the Ministry of Education and Culture informed that the RA Law "On Higher Education and Science" revised draft, which was previously recognized as unconstitutional by two provisions and returned for editing, is currently under public discussion. According to Karen Trchunyan, the "State program for the development of education until 2030" was adopted in the first reading yesterday in the National Assembly, which will have the force of law after the second reading and complete adoption. He emphasized that establishing an academic city is fixed in the plan of action arising from the program. The main goal of the project, according to the deputy minister, is to increase and modernize the efficiency of higher education, as well as the development of relevant infrastructures. According to the deputy minister, the new educational programs or the improvement of the existing programs should be based on the interests of the scientific and educational community. It should be consistent with the Education Strategy's principles and the academic city's concept.

In turn, Ifeyinwa Onugan, a senior specialist in the private sector of the World Bank, noted that research was conducted in three directions to find out which exact sciences Armenia has capabilities that can be developed and made profitable effective for the country. According to him, the World Bank is ready to provide appropriate support in higher education areas that will impact the development and commercialization of science. Ifeyinwa Onugan assured that this is of primary importance for the World Bank.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed that the World Bank would develop relevant proposals and present them. The Ministry of Education and Culture would define priorities by the Education Strategy, which will be discussed during further meetings.
