The President of the Republic, Vahagn Khachaturyan, received the General Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariano Grossi.
Welcoming the guest, President Khachaturyan particularly emphasized the importance of cooperation between the RA government and the EAEU, which is essential from the point of view of ensuring Armenia's energy and nuclear security. "Your visit is essential for us. The nuclear power plant started working in Armenia in 1976. From that time until now, we have gone through various trials. I mean the Spitak earthquake and the shutdown of the nuclear power plant after that. Later, it resumed its work in 1995. I participated in that process as a member of the government commission, and I can say with certainty that the reactivation of the nuclear power plant would not have been realized if it were not for our close cooperation with the IEA and the extensive advisory and technical support provided by the agency. I hope that our cooperation will be continuous," President Khachaturyan said.
Rafael thanked Mariano Grossi for the reception and noted that the structure he headed is ready to support Armenia in the development of security and digital systems and strategy development.
During the meeting, reference was made to the project works for constructing a new atomic power unit in Armenia and the need to train young and professional specialists. The General Director of the IAEA emphasized that Armenia can always expect the support of the IAEA.
At the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue close cooperation, particularly within the framework of providing expert advice and comprehensive support.
