Along with the seasonal flu, the coronavirus can become somewhat more active

From September 26 to October 2, 910 new cases of coronavirus disease were registered in Armenia; the number of instances recorded last week was 1431. Svetlana Grigoryan, head of the Department of Epidemiology of Immunosuppression and Controlled Infectious Diseases of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the RA Ministry of Health, told Radar Armenia that at the moment, the epidemic situation of the coronavirus around the world is relatively stable. However, according to her, this does not mean that there will be no revitalization.

According to Grigoryan, especially now, when the period of acute respiratory infections, and seasonal flu, begins, the coronavirus disease can also become active. "In this context, the role and importance of vaccinations and, especially, booster doses are important because the main part of the population, about 51%, has already received the first dose of vaccination against coronavirus diseases, about 46% - the second dose, but in booster doses, the situation is not so good. Only about 3% of the population received a booster dose."

Svetlana Grigoryan emphasized that over time, a specific reduction of antibodies in vaccinations is observed, so it is essential to use booster doses to prevent the increase in hospitalizations and severe cases.

According to the expert, although daily monitoring is carried out in Armenia, it is difficult to say whether there is a possibility of a new wave breaking out or not.

To the question: after how long should a person vaccinated with two doses receive a booster dose, Grigoryan said that it is recommended to receive the booster 3-6 months after receiving the second dose because that is the optimal period in which the person will have the opportunity to receive a booster dose and, ahead of the season, will be protected.
