We must not allow disunity and intra-societal polarizations to lead us to new defeats

Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II delivered a message regarding the border situation.

"Dear Armenian people,

Our souls are disturbed again. We follow with pain and concern the provocative military operations unleashed by Azerbaijan at night along the border of Armenia. As a result, peaceful settlements were shelled, with victims and wounded. These conspiratorial steps taken during the peace agenda negotiation process are reprehensible. The enemy has not changed, nor have his aspirations and intentions. The war of 2020, the brutal actions of our people in Artsakh, and the encroachments on the borders of Armenia, which did not receive an adequate international assessment, inspired the enemy to try to achieve the desired concessions with continuous military operations. Threats and coercion cannot establish real, dignified peace; it cannot be beneficial and last.

Dear children of our Armenia, Artsakh, and Diaspora, we are sure that the spirit of our people is strong, and the soldiers guarding the borders of the motherland are great. In the background are the sacred native land, our families, the graves of our martyred heroes flying the native flag, and the temples calling to God. In the current situation, we should not allow disunity and social polarization to lead us to new defeats, forced peace to further concessions. We must face this test with our unity and loyalty to the motherland. Now, let's consolidate our capabilities and opportunities, all the national potential, and support the Armenian Army and the needs of the homeland. Let's not enter and act with native love and responsibility. With total commitment, let each of us do what we can in our area of responsibility, for the sake of the steadfastness of independent statehood, for the sake of the permanence of our nation.
From the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, we appeal to the international community, especially our friendly countries, to take practical steps to stop Azerbaijan's repeated aggression and ambitions toward the Armenian world.

It is our fraternal appeal to the pastors of the Sister Churches to pray for the safety of the first Christian state and its believing people, and we can contribute to establishing real peace in the region.

It is our plea to the Only Begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, to come again to visit his little flock, whom he chose centuries ago as a testimony of his faith. We pray for the peace of the souls of our fallen children and the comfort of their relatives and families. We wish a speedy recovery to all the injured. May the Lord keep him strong and resilient and protect the Armenian soldier with His Most Careful Holy Right.

May God protect the Armenian army and our homeland."
