Recently, problems have arisen in the process of issuing identification cards. Citizens complain that the passport and visa department of the police does not issue identification cards.
In response to Radar Armenia's inquiry, the RA Police detailed that, due to the current state of the old system, it has become challenging to issue identification cards.
According to the Police, Armenia has adopted a policy of transition to a completely biometric system, within which it is planned to provide documents containing biometric data exclusively to citizens of Armenia, as well as to foreigners, refugees, and stateless persons with residence status in Armenia.
"In this direction, complex interventions are being carried out to re-equip the system, a group of international professional consultants is working, besides, due to the current state of the old system, it has become difficult to issue identification cards. However, all those citizens who, within the framework of legislation, can exercise their rights exclusively through an identification card, for example, a business or such an activity that requires an identification card and an electronic digital signature, or are in mandatory military service, or by the decision of the authority conducting the proceedings the issuance of passports, etc. is limited, identification cards are issued," says the answer.
