The event dedicated to launching the "Generation AI" program took place today at the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports.
During the event, the representatives of RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Vahram Dumanyan and Founding Director of the Foundation for Science and Technology of Armenia (FAST) Armen Orujyan signed a collaborative agreement where the main directions of the implementation of the project were fixed.
Minister Vahram Dumanyan congratulated the attendees and noted that the "Generation of Artificial Intelligence (AI)" program would lay the foundation for the organization of artificial intelligence education in several high schools in Armenia, which will be launched in Tavush state.
"We need to develop a performance-based credit system so that those students who study this program and continue their professional education at the university have the opportunity to transfer the knowledge acquired at school in the form of a credit to the university system," the minister noted and added that a close connection should be established between the school and the university to regulate the problems of mutual recognition and matching of programs.
Vahram Dumanyan considered it symbolic that the program's start is given on the Day of Knowledge and Education. "We must develop this direction to have an educational field that meets international standards, to be recognized, appreciated, and accepted in the international education system."
"We highly appreciate this cooperation because we see artificial intelligence as a catalyst for investing in the education system and providing competitive knowledge to our students. We are delighted that this cooperation is taking place, and we are starting the project's pilot phase with joint efforts. We hope that in a short time, it will spread to schools throughout the country, and we will be able to implement a systemic change together," said Armen Orujyan, director of the FAST Foundation.
Zhanna Andreasyan, Deputy Minister of Education and Culture, stated that the program is entirely within the scope of the education strategy targets. According to her, in the Government's program and the "State Program for the Development of Education until 2030", a unique role has been assigned to the direction of the BTU, and the improvement of the quality of education in that direction is one of the primary tasks of the state.
"I am sure that due to this cooperation, we will be able to record a significant qualitative change because we will introduce new content and programs in schools and a new way of working and teaching. And by doing it through the artificial intelligence course, we will be able to carry out targeted work for the further promotion of professional and human potential in one of the priority areas for the country," stressed the deputy minister.
According to Zhanna Andreasyan, the professional abilities of teachers will be significantly improved within the program's framework. According to her, it will be possible to implement the credit training procedure in a trial way to make training more effective in high school and connect it with further professional education. "We hope that as a result of the program, the students who have gained the first credits will be able to apply the knowledge they received at the university."
It should be noted that within the framework of the "Generation of Artificial Intelligence (AI)" program, starting from January 2023, students of many high schools in Yerevan and Tavush will have the opportunity to study advanced mathematics, programming, learn the basics of machine learning and deep learning, as well as to acquire the necessary skills and professional orientation in artificial intelligence.
