Davtashen agricultural produce market is already functioning

Davtashen agricultural produce market is already functioning. At the market adjacent to the park, traders come every day from 7:00 am. Yerevan Municipality informs about this.

"I bring my grown products here from Ejmiatsin and sell them. "I usually finish the trade before noon," says Meruzhan Asatryan.

The market area was restricted a few years ago, but traders chose the crowded sidewalks and the adjacent regions of shops to sell their goods, engaging in illegal open-air trade.

"We also didn't like standing on the street and trading, but we had to. Now it is more comfortable here: there is a roof, a pavilion, a separate area for car parking," the traders say.

"When we urged to stop the illegal activities, we were referred to the lack of alternative, which was a sensitive topic. We concentrated a lot of forces so that traders come here," says Hrachya Hakobyan, deputy head of Davtashen administrative district.

The market area is private. Traders pay 500-1000 drams per day. 50-70 people can trade here at the same time. If necessary, there is a possibility of expanding the area. The administrative district manager's staff has agreed with the site owner to increase the market facilities.

In Davtashen, it was counted that around 100 traders engaged in illegal trade in the open air. Now there are no street traders in the central parts of the district, but here they are not in a hurry to consider the problem solved.

"Some citizens are trying to organize illegal trade in backyard areas, but control will be established, it will disappear, and everyone will be directed to the markets," says Hrachya Hakobyan.

The problem will finally be solved after the legislative changes when the community will have the opportunity to confiscate the product. The city government is taking parallel steps to revitalize the work of Yerevan's administrative districts' markets and establish new small markets.
